Social Development Celebration 2011 Photography Contest

As part of its Social Development Celebration 2011, CODE-NGO organizes once again its Photography Contest for young, amateur photographers, building from the success of last year’s competition, which gathered a total of 48 entries from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This activity aims to acknowledge the value of the arts in national development advocacy, cultivate the synergy between creativity and social awareness, and promote active citizenship and participation, particularly among the youth, through photography.

Theme

The theme of the contest is “Kahirapan at Katiwalian, Sama-Sama Nating Labanan!”.  Entries should creatively capture in photos Filipino citizen/s who voluntarily and actively take a role in their community to help address poverty or make life better for people, through improved access to basic services, equitable access to productive resources, or opportunities for jobs and  livelihood;  or those who have taken action against corruption or have demonstrated acts of honesty and integrity as a counter-response to prevailing cynicism and lack of social involvement.

The subject of the photography need not be an effort of known personalities or groups.  What we aim to highlight are the voluntary efforts of ordinary citizens or organized groups to contribute to their community or to national development in fighting corruption and poverty.

Who are eligible to join?

Young amateur photographers 16 to 30 years old are invited to join.

The Social Development Celebration (SDC) is an annual event organized by the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO), in partnership with the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) and the Association of Foundations (AF), to promote to a wider public the role of citizens and civil society organizations (CSOs) in national development.  Through the SDC’s series of events, CODE-NGO members and the general public are provided a venue to appreciate the various facets of CSO work and volunteers as advocates, development program/project implementors and social entrepreneurs.
