CODE-NGO to hold dialogues on the Bangsamoro Basic Law
To reinforce the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the national pursuit for peace in Mindanao, the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO) will conduct a series of information sessions on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in various regional areas in the country.
With the theme “Peace within Reach”, the dialogues aim to promote an understanding of the struggle for self-determination of our brothers and sisters in Mindanao. Fostering consensus and support for BBL among the attending CSOs is also one of the main goals of the workshop sessions.
The first leg in the series of the information sessions will be conducted this November 7, 2014 at the Institute of Social Order, Ateneo de Manila University. The said event will cover primary issues and concerns with regards to BBL. These include a historical review of the Moro struggle in the Philippines, a presentation on the highlights of the Bangsamoro peace processes, and a discussion on the important features of the proposed BBL.
At the end of the information sessions, the participants shall come up with concrete campaign plans and proposals that can aid in the passage and ratification of BBL in the Congress.
