February 14 -15, 2019—CODE-NGO met with Business Operations Director Nicolas Kröger and Head of Partnerships Alex Farrington of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA) to formalize the founding of the Center for Humanitarian Learning and Innovation (CHLI) in the Philippines. CHLI is a joint initiative between CODE-NGO and HLA which aims to address the capacity development needs of individuals and institutions operating in the humanitarian sector.
As the exclusive affiliate of the Academy in the Philippines, CODE-NGO, through CHLI, is set to take the lead in user-centric design approaches to address the growing demand for a highly skilled humanitarian workforce. With the increasing frequency and complexity of humanitarian crises in the Philippines, the Centre recognizes the urgent need to invest in the learning and development of staff and volunteers of organizations working in humanitarian contexts.
“The creation of CHLI is a milestone for CODE-NGO as it makes quality and technology-fueled learning products easily and readily accessible to NGOs/CSOs and other institutions that have none,” CODE-NGO Executive Director Roselle Rasay said during the meeting with HLA representatives.
CHLI fosters partnerships in the country with a range of institutions across the humanitarian sector and beyond — from technology companies to universities; local communities to multinational corporations and from local authorities to national governments. It offers products and services including organizational learning solutions, creation and customization of new learning materials and digitization of traditional face-to-face or instructor-led learning packages into interactive and self-paced e-Learning modules. These modules can then be accessed by learners through the HLA’s digital learning platform, Kaya Connect, or may be delivered in blended (i.e. online + face-to-face) formats.
Addressing the growing demand for preparedness, response and resilience content, the Centre, in collaboration with partners, is envisioned to enable people and organizations in the Philippines and Southeast Asia to prepare for and respond to crises in their own communities and institutions.
