Asia Development Alliance (ADA) confirms CODE-NGO as co-convener NGO/CSO Platform in the Philippines

alt More than 70 participants, mostly representatives of national and sub-national development NGO/CSO platforms and international CSOs and their platforms, came together for the first meeting of the Asia Development Alliance (ADA) in Bangkok on January 31 to February 2, 2013 under the theme “Asian Voice for the World We Want 2015”.

In the context of Post 2015 Development Agenda and the global campaign for the World We Want, ADA was created as a joint initiative and an evolving network of national and sub-national development NGO/CSO platforms (NPs) in Asia formed to enhance synergetic effects and cost-effective communication, coordination and cooperation in partnership with international CSOs and their platforms, in particular, Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP)-Asia, CIVICUS Affinity Groups of National Associations (AGNA), and International Forum of National NGO Platforms (IFP).

ADA was established based on the belief that NPs can and should play a proactive role as an interface and inter-linkage between local, sub-national and national CSOs and international CSOs in terms of information sharing, policy shaping and advocacy.  Its 15 founding member NPs include 4 from South Asia, 5 from Southeast Asia and 6 from Northeast Asia, which work in partnership with international CSOs. The ADA network is open to other Asian NPs which may wish to join.

ADA is committed to work together with relevant partner organizations in the context of the Post 2015 Development Agenda, in particular the 4th High Level Panel (HLP) on Post 2015 (Bali, March 2013), UN General Assembly (New York, September 2013) and other relevant international meetings, and may also work with other organizations on other international concerns such as Development Effectiveness and Rio+20.

At the Bangkok meeting, six NPs were confirmed as co-conveners to facilitate the ADA process: Voluntary Action Network of India (VANI) and Nepal Federation of NGOs (NFN) for South Asia, CODE-NGO (Philippines) and Cooperation Committee on Cambodia (CCC) for Southeast Asia, and Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC) and Korea NGO Council for Overseas Cooperation (KCOC) for Northeast Asia, with KCOC as a focal point. — Dodo Macasaet, CODE-NGO Executive Director
