CODE-NGO Celebrates Silver Anniversary at SocDev 2016

QUEZON CITY — CODE-NGO, a coalition of civil society organizations, will celebrate its 25th anniversary during its Social Development summit titled “SocDev 2016” on November 23-25 at the Sequoia Hotel in Quezon City. The event brings together more than 100 member organizations across 12 national and regional networks. SocDev 2016 is the development sector’s leading venue for sharing industry best practices and discussing pressing matters in the field. This event will also serve as a prelude to CODE-NGO’s annual General Assembly.

A Landmark Year

For its silver anniversary, the organization chose the theme: “CODE-NGO@25: Networking, Empowering, and Transforming for Social Justice and Sustainable Development.

“As a coalition that bridges civil society organizations from all corners of the country, we know first-hand that meaningful connections and partnerships are crucial to the success of social development initiatives. By organizing this event, we hope to celebrate and inform people of the power that a network of passionate, like-minded individuals can offer,” says Sixto Donato C. Macasaet, executive director of CODE-NGO.

In line with this milestone event, the organization has invited no less than Vice President Leni Robredo to deliver the summit’s keynote speech.

To tackle the changing landscape of social development work, SocDev 2016 will also feature a plenary session called “Glo-Cal Environment Scan: Global, Asian, National, and Local Perspectives,” the results of which will inform the organization’s strategic planning for 2017-2022.

2016 is also a landmark year for CODE-NGO in more ways than one, adds Macasaet: “This is the first year of a new presidency, which will surely have implications to sustaining current reform programs. Likewise, 2016 is the 30th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution, the 25th year of the Local Government Code’s implementation, and the midway mark for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. We expect these historic milestones to frame many of the discussions at SocDev 2016.”

Celebrating a Legacy

To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the organization will unveil a limited edition coffee table book that will be presented to members and select guests. The said book will serve as a compilation of the inspiring stories of progress that CODE-NGO’s member organizations and civil society leaders have helped bring to fruition over the past 25 years.

At SocDev 2016, CODE-NGO will also announce the winners of its Youth Video Awards, a contest that seeks to enlighten young Filipinos about the good work done by civil society organizations. A short film that highlights CODE-NGO or any of its members will be chosen as the grand winner and its creators will receive a P50,000 cash prize.
